Planting Design, Highbury

This planting design project adds a finishing touch to the sleek and contemporary house renovation carried out by the italian clients. The brief was to bring a soft but vibrant feel to the garden, steering away from formal, static planting and instead injecting movement and colour in a naturalistic way with splashes of yellow, orange and purple. The planting design faced various challenges in this garden, in particularly the north facing aspect and further shading from buildings to the side and rear.

Raised beds near to the house have been filled with scented herbs and bright perennials to provide a focal point to the planting scheme. A variety of shade-tolerant climbers have been used to disguise brick walls at the side and rear of the garden, and a range of shade tolerant shrubs, perennials, ferns and bulbs have been used to bring colour and interest throughout the year. A freshly laid lawn, new hedging in the front garden and an espaliered apple tree on the deck all add to the scheme.
